Our Philosophy

Mead Recompiled

Because mead does not belong in the past.

We respect the history. We do not live in it.

Mead has an incredible history, and we respect that. But we are not here to recreate a Viking feast or turn every bottle into a trip back to medieval Britain. Mead has spent thousands of years evolving, and we think it can keep evolving. That is the whole point.

We are not interested in making mead feel like something you can only enjoy if you are wearing a fur cloak, holding a drinking horn, or pretending you have just returned from a raid. Instead, we want to make craft mead feel relevant to the people drinking it today, in the UK and beyond.

That means modern flavours, modern branding, and a genuine willingness to experiment. It means creating bottles that can sit alongside your favourite beer, wine, or cider without feeling like they belong in a museum. The history of mead is part of what makes it fascinating. But it is only the starting point. We make mead for today.

Honey at the heart

Honey is still at the heart of what we do. Fermentation is still what turns that honey into mead. The craft and patience behind the process still matter. What changes is what we choose to do with it.

Room to experiment

Fruit, spices, botanicals, and different flavour combinations give us room to experiment with every small batch. Some ideas become permanent favourites. Others might only ever exist as a single batch. That freedom is exactly what makes small batch craft mead production exciting.

No rulebook

There is no single way mead has to look, taste, or be presented. It can be sweet or dry. Fruity or spiced. Familiar or completely unexpected. We would rather explore those possibilities than spend our time trying to fit into a fixed idea of what a British meadery is supposed to be.

Just be curious

You do not need to know anything about mead before opening one of our bottles. You do not need to be a history enthusiast. You certainly do not need a drinking horn. You just need to be curious about what craft mead can be.

Random Access Meadery monogram

Why Random Access Meadery?

The name Random Access Meadery is a nod to Random Access Memory, or RAM, the computer memory that lets a system quickly access the information it needs. We liked the idea because it reflects how we approach craft mead making.

There is no fixed sequence to follow and no single formula that says what mead has to be. We can jump between ideas, ingredients, and flavours, experiment with something completely different, and see what works. Every batch is its own decision.

It also gives us a name that reflects who we are. We are interested in the intersection between something very old and something distinctly modern. The Vikings had their mead. This is ours.

The past gave us mead. We want to see where it goes next.
